Before the explosion of casual gaming, and long before South of Market (SoMa) in San Francisco was changed from Multimedia Gulch to Gamers Gulch, Tangerine POP had the good fortune of being one of the first consultants/developers for Shockwave.com. It was back in the astronomical heydays of the late 20th century when Macromedia Flash was king, the Internet was filled with highly creative, immersive content, and website creators across the globe were reaching out across the seven seas, connecting, and collaborating with each other for the first time in history… all via 56k modems- just right before the Dot-com Bubble burst in early 2000.
We used to publish games with Shockwave.com. Back then, they were an innovative, visionary force that was fantastic to work with, supportive, and represented a true game publisher. That means the ideas you pitched and they green lit came with their financial support, marketing prowess, respectable feedback, and vast user base. Publishers took the financial risk with you because they believed in the potential of your game ideas and saw you through to launch.
The various “publishers” today expect you to build it on your own dime, hide your product on their platform until you pay for ads to make it visible, and then take 30% of the gross profits as they plan obsolescence your product into non-existence under the pretense of necessary software updates.
Jewelion: Power of the Gemstones
When we launched one of the first Match 3s on Facebook. We were excited to see our simple FB posts sharing a fun-filled game resulted in an average of five thousand+ new users each day. That was until, our game was made invisible in less than 3 weeks by the same platform. After that, we decided to rethink our approach and wait while we tinkered with other things. With the rise of crypto as a promising technology disruptor, we are retooling our approach and considering the IPFS, NFTs, and the various blockchains before launching our next project.
Until then, we thought its about time we update our site, showcase some of our portfolio, and tell a little of our story to the curious few.
Dungeon Run

Originally published on Shockwave.com, Dungeon Run garnered over 150 million plays across the world in 3 months. There’s so much more we want to do with this novel dungeon crawler, but it will have to remain a distant memory for now.
